Exciting news! I've decided to start this new feature on my blog called Midway Checkup. Since I'm in school and don't have all that much time to read and finish books on a regular basis, this will hopefully allow me to blog more often and post things related to the book I'm reading. Let me explain!
Instead of only posting a final review, I'm also going to write a post when I'm about half way through the book. In doing this, I'll be able to let you guys know what I think of the book so far, predict what I think is going to happen, and write about my overall impressions! It'll be cool, don't worry. So, here we go!
Book: Animals
Author: Don LePan
Plot context: Animals takes place in the future where people no longer own dogs or cats as household pets. Instead, people own "mongrels", actual human beings with mental or physical disabilities that have been deemed no longer human.
I'm probably two thirds of the way done this one by now. And let me tell you, it's really different. The concept is strange, the writing style is strange - the overall novel is strange! However, I find it really refreshing. This is a book that makes you think and re-evaluate your morals and values. The themes that keep arising in this book are never ending and are very much related to our present lives. What do we define as human? What do we treat humanely? What deserves to be treated humanely? I'm constantly going over those points in my head while reading.
I have a strong feeling that this book isn't going to have a happy ending. There's been so much foreshadowing and hinting going on that I have this feeling of foreboding whenever I turn the page. I'm anxious to finish it soon and find out the conclusion! Keep an eye out for a review coming up in the next few days.

Oh, I like the idea of a midway checkup - it'll be interesting to see if your opinion changes between here and the review ;) Sounds like a very compelling book so far.
