Friday also means that it's the Book Blogger Hop! There are so many good book blogs out there that I've discovered through this event. Join in! On to this week's question:
Do you have a rating system? If so, what is it and why do you have it?I've thought about implementing a rating system, but I've decided against it. First of all, I can't see myself being consistent with the criteria. I'm afraid that the ratings would become irrelevant that way! Also, I want to keep my reviews as more of a "discussion" type thing, as opposed to a review for the sake of rating a book. That's not to say that I don't like ratings on other blogs - I do! I just don't think it would work for me.
Are you here from the Hop? Feel free to leave a link to your blog so I can come visit. I will, I promise!

Emidy, I never noticed you didn't and I realise it is because you have it like a discussion, so it obviously works for you babe.
I only post my rating of the books at the end of the month. Come see what my rating system is.
Hi- stopping by from the crazy for books blog hop. If you like family sold Separately, stop by http://musingsofashopgirl.blogspot.com She's British and has that same wit in her posts. I love to read her on Fridays or when I've had a bad day. Anyway, I'm wondering if a plotless book is good?

Hi :) YOu know you've raised a really good point. For some reason I have it drummed into my head that in order to review something I have to have a rating system. It makes sense that if someone is interested in readin the book and find my review, they'll either read or they won't. I write my reviews in a way that it's very obvious whether I loved or hated it. Maybe I should follow you example and put aside the ratings. I will how continue yusing my sizzle meter. I like a bit of warning when reading romance about just how hot the book gets. It was important to me so I'm thinking I keep it. Thanks alot for your respponses and sorry for the length of mine
:P Great HOP !!!

Well, I do like the way you do your reviews without ratings, so obviously it's working! I think it's great you do it a little differently than others. :)
Have a great day!
I've been your follower forever :)
I use a rating system but it's not too defined. Rather, it's a simple 1 to five star scale because my reviews get a wee bit wordy haha
Thanks for this post!

and forthcoming "The Homeplace Revisited" Spring 2011
Thanks for visiting, everyone! I love how every blog has a different way of doing things.
Here for the Hop! I do not use a rating system. No two books are alike, unless they have the same author.
You have an interesting point :) I personally like rating books because I enjoy telling what my overall feelings on, but I definitely understand where you're coming from!
(Thanks for hopping by my blog, by the way!)
Hey, thanks for stopping by my blog!
I hope you have a fab weekend

ah yes, I too do not have a rating system, however I am a member on goodreads, so if my readers really want a rating per say there's one over there. sometimes the 1-5 star rating can seem too 1 dementional to me. For instance I could give two books 5 star ratings but mean two completely separate things, it can be an emotional rating not necessarily a literary one, or vice versa. However I'm not averse to seeing rating systems on blogs either :) they're actually quite fun to see how different bloggers do their rating systems.
sorry for the long post, but am now a follower and love the blog!

I'm visiting from the hop! The book below this post sounds really interesting!
Books from Bleh to Basically Amazing
I almost thought about implementing a rating system as well, but I too decided against. it. I like your idea of a reviews being more of a discussion. I like when people have questions at the end of their reviews.
Found you and through the hop. Have a good weekend.

firepages - So true! Every book is unique. Thanks for stopping by.
Izzy - Thank you for visiting! Rating systems work well on many blogs, I find.
Flippin' Fabulous - Thanks so much!
Kika - I agree with you! My criteria for ratings would change all the time. But I love seeing them on other blogs! Thanks so much for following.
Najela - Sounds like we're alike! Haha, thanks so much for visiting.
Okay I love your blog even more now! I don't rate my books either. I don't think a 3 tells whether you liked it or not, discussion is much, much better :)
Love your photo of the child reading....so cute.
Just hopping by....
Stop by my blog if you get a chance for the answer to this week's questions, and reviews on I'd Know you Anywhere by Laura Lippman, Saving Cee Cee Honeycut by Beth Hoffman, and many others.

Hi there! New follower from the hop! I have a fun rating system which works well for me, but I can see the advantages of not having some type of constraint as well! Hope you are having a great day!
Smiles!
