Oh, I wish time could be paused!

I know everyone says it, but there truly is not enough time in a day! I say now this because I haven't had the chance to have a hardcore reading "session" lately. It's a few minutes here, half an hour before bed, ten minutes while eating breakfast, five minutes while on my break at work... nothing solid. Recently, I haven't had the chance to just sit down and devote a good couple of hours to reading. That's something I love, love, love to do. I love to just ignore the world, ignore my responsibilities, and read. What could be better?

The book I'm reading right now is A Good and Happy Child. It's one of those deep, substantial books that requires you to read uninterrupted. I feel like I'm not doing it justice with my sporadic reading habits lately. It's terrible! Tonight, though, I will hopefully have the chance to sit down and spend time with it. It needs some love and attention.

Anyways, how do you make time to read? Do you have a certain time of day when you read for a while, or are you more random? Do you feel like you're interrupting the flow of the book in any way?

Oh this has been something that has been bothering me for at least the last month. It seems forever since I just opened a book and read without stopping. I used to read working out and now I'm too distracted. I'd go to bed early to read and now when I end up going to bed I'm asleep within 10-15 minutes. I miss being able to fully immerse myself in my reading and I think I'm going to have to take drastic measures. Maybe put a padlock on my door and a huge sign saying "Sorry I'm not here. I'm off chasing werewolves or making doe eyes at vampires" ROFL

Hope things work out so you can get some good quality reading done :D

My reading times are more random than planned, although I do keep most of my reading time saved for late at night.

The only time I feel as if I'm interrupting the flow of the book, is when I'm reading and then unexpectedly have to stop - for a phone call, to go somewhere, etc.

I know how you feel as up until recently I had a lot of work on and couldn't make much time to read. And some books just require more concentration than others.

My reading times are lunchtime, travel time (unless I'm driving) and before bed - but I love nothing more than to spend an hour or so with a book - in the garden, a park or a coffee shop. Weekends are usually the best time for this.

I do try not to abandon a book for more than a day or two because sometimes I lose the thread and it never gets picked up again!

Oh my gosh, I know...I started school this week, and I've only had a few moments of reading time. I usually read at night (or in my car every morning before school - or during breaks between classes).

Pretty much, I just try to force in some reading time whenever I can ;)

I totally know what you mean. When I have my hands full on assgnments and work, I just hate myself not be able to read. But i will find sometime at least read a few pages before I sleep.

I just started back to work as school began this week. I have a hard time eeking out time throughout the week for my reading and then have to decide if I can ignore all the chores I should do on the weekend or sit down and read. My house doesn't get clean liked it should, the laundry is hit and miss, but the weekends are the only real time I have to devoted to my reading. So, I just do it then.

Books sure do need love and attention and it is heartbreaking when you want to but can't. Between working, a toddler and life I only really find time late at night before going to sleep and really that is our time after our daughter goes sleep.

Good luck, hope you get into it.

To be very honest, this is one of the main reasons I had to take such a long hiatus. Between work, planning my move, and all the other activities in my life, I just couldn't find the time to sit down and read all the books I had yet to review.

These days, I'm devoting at least 30 minutes before bed strictly to reading. I think it's not only important, but it relaxes me, and it gives me the motivation to keep it up...after all...we hate a cliffhanger!

UGH. I wish I could make myself make the time to read. I love reading. I always have a book with me, but I get distracted. By blogging, by reading blogs, by twitter, by any number of things and I just -- don't read. I hate that I don't read. I want to be reading but I just -- don't.

Ha and here I was thinking I was the only one. For me it's a big change going from homeschooling back to public school. I spent the whole year reading and blogging so now I'm finding it super hard to balance them. Like everyone else before bed is the best time, unless I'm dead tired. Awesome post Emidy! :)

I always make time to read.... it's doing anything else that's the problem! I tend to finish a book once I start it lol

Oh I feel ya. I just moved. My house is a wreck. I'm trying to learn a new city. Soon I will need to job hunt. It's a challenge.

I basically take my book everywhere in case I get caught somewhere waiting for something or someone and can steal a few minutes.

Emidy, I've felt the exact same way - I wish I could just stop time so I could get some quality reading done. I also haven't been able to read a lot lately, but now I've got a couple of free days ahead of me, so that's what I'm going to do! I love devoting an entire evening to reading.

I've been going through the same lately... I still read during my lunch break at work, but other than that I haven't been able to find much time to do some serious reading. Oh well... we still have to live our lives, right? It would be nice to ignore all responsibilities for the sake of a good story every now and then, though :P

Wow, thanks for all the comments! It's nice to see that you all feel the same way - I'm not alone!

With blogging, I read more than I did before because I have a reason to do so. But at the same time, the blogging community takes away time I'd otherwise spent reading - plus it's inspired me to write my own stories. I've been trying to read a lot during my breaks at work. Unless the weather is nice enough for a walk, there's really nothing else to do.

Well a week ago i would have said you should do this, this and this, but lately i havent been much of a reader myself, one of the reasons may be Ramadan because it does take a lot out of you, or maybe its stress its hard to point it out, but i tend to read at random times but most likely at night when the house is silent and i can read in peace, sometimes all it takes and this has worked for me, is just to find a amazing book and boom! your back into the readng funk :D

I haven't been reading as much as usually lately either. This summer has just been miserably hot that I think my brain melted.

Looking forward to a nice rainy day when I can just sit and read for hours.

Oh this is the question shared by avid readers the world round. As for my reading habits? Anywhere, any time, any place. No seriously! I usually carry one in my purse + eReader (back up), and then more often than not a tote that has 1 or 2 additional titles should I finish the first one or be in the mood for something different. As for where.....lunch time, waiting in line at the store, right before bed...like I said ANY chance I get. ^_^

Alison - Me too! Since I started blogging, I definitely read more.

Blueicegal - I looove reading at night also. Reading in bed before I go to sleep is the best, because, like you said, it's quiet and I can focus on the book.

Sharilyn - Oh, rainy days are perfect for reading! I need one of those.

GMR - Haha wow, you read everywhere! That's great. And it's also good to have back up books. I should do that!

I hear you. Actually, I must confess that I have not read ANYTHING for a couple days now.

I usually read for a couple hours a night after my kids are in bed. I'll occasionally read throughout the day, but I find if I'm reading in sessions of less than 15 minutes, the flow of the story gets really disjointed.

I am the luckiest person in the world to have a job that, about half the time, allows me hours of reading. not uninterrupted...but still.
